Stewards of Southern Soil

The Goat Herd of Alabama is an eco-friendly, machine-free, chemical-free, and controlled solution to overgrown vegetation across Jefferson, Shelby, and parts of Tuscaloosa counties. Specializing in targeted goat grazing, we clear overgrown brush, saplings, briars, poison ivy, chinese privet, and the vine that ate the South, kudzu.

This isn’t just grazing—it’s regenerative land management and land stewardship in motion. Our herd disrupts photosynthesis in invasive plants, weakens root systems, neutralizes seed regeneration, and naturally fertilizes the soil. By returning balance to the ecosystem and nutrients to the soil, targeted grazing disrupts invasive cycles.

Unlike heavy machinery, our goats can access hard-to-reach areas like steep slopes, creek banks, and uneven terrain, making them an ideal solution for properties that need an effective touch where equipment falls short.

The Goat Herd of Alabama is operated by Joshua Smith, a Wyoming native who resides in Hoover, Alabama with his family. Raised in the open spaces of the Rocky Mountains, Joshua developed a lifelong respect for Mother Nature and now brings that ethic to Alabama—where invasive species are choking off native plants and transforming the land. Through The Goat Herd of Alabama, his mission is to reclaim ground—one acre at a time—with the belief that even the most overgrown land still holds promise.

Our inaugural grazing season runs from April through November 2026. Whether you're managing a backyard, farm, right-of-way, or public land, we're here to help.
